Whitsundays & Great Barrier Reef Adventure (12-16 August 2024)

from $750.00

August 2024, we’re thrilled to be again offering the ultimate ocean adventure experience – 5 days and 4 nights living aboard a maxi-yacht sailboat anchored in the remote Outer Great Barrier Reef. Each day we’ll explore this immense wilderness absolutely teeming with psychedelic fish life and corals. You’ll have the opportunity to snorkel and capture stunning underwater photography, refine your freediving under expert instruction and harvest fresh and delicious seafood sustainably from the source. This trip is suitable for beginner and experienced freedivers alike. All you’ll need is your own freedive/spearfishing gear and we’ll take care of the rest.

The maxi yacht ‘Condor’, is operated by a professional crew of 5 who will cater to all of our needs, ensuring we’re safe, well fed and having the best time possible. They will  provide 3 delicious meals a day, including cooking our freshly caught seafood. Alcohol is BYO.

Day 1 – We set sail from the Coral Sea marina in Airlie Beach making the short sail across to the Whitsunday Islands where we’ll find a picturesque bay to anchor in and begin our beginner spearfishing course and freedive refresher including theory and a gentle line diving session to get our bearings and feel comfortable in the water. Epic sunset vistas and a delicious shared meal before gently rocking ourselves to sleep on the yacht – sleeping on the deck is a real treat when the moon and stars are out and lighting up the islands.

Day 2 – Set sail to the Outer Great Barrier Reef where we’ll anchor the yacht in one of the endless turquoise lagoons which will be our home for the next few days. First day on the reef will include an afternoon spearing/snorkelling session and cookup of our catch on the boat.

Day 3 and 4 – Two full days spent exploring the vast wilderness of the reef. There will be two 3-4hr long spearfishing/snorkelling sessions each day – one in the morning and one after lunch. Each night will be spent hanging out and laughing with friends as the sun sets over the reef with the Whitsundays only a distant speck on the horizon.

Day 5 – Possible early morning spear session then begin the sail trip back through the Whitsundays, arriving at the Coral Sea Marina around 330pm

***Itinerary is subject to weather and may be modified to suit the conditions. Good weather and we’ll be spearfishing and exploring the Outer Great Barrier Reef for most of the time with limited opportunity for line training but possibly 15-20m max. Windy weather and we may be trapped at the Islands which would mean more opportunity for depth training down to 40m, some limited spearfishing plus snorkelling and exploring beaches. Embracing the weather is a major part of any such adventure.

About the boat - Maxi-yacht ‘Condor’ is an ex-competition sailboat, the largest vessel owned and operated by Prosail Whitsundays and capable of sailing at speeds up to 12 knots (that’s fast). The professional crew of 4 will cater to all of our needs while living on the boat, ensuring we are safe, well fed and having the best time possible.
