AIDA 4 MASTER FREEDIVER / ASISSTANT INSTRUCTOR
REVIEW
“I’ve finally completed the last requirement for the AIDA 4 Master Freediver Certification. I started my freediving journey 3.5 years ago, and I’m excited to push beyond recreational limits and explore my full potential, not only in pool but also in depth disciplines. Jarrod Briffa has been my coach from the beginning, Thanks coach.”
Ron Sommerlatt, German National Team.
AIDA 4 — Master Freediver
Take your freediving to the next level.
AIDA 4 is the highest level in the AIDA recreational freediving pathway and is designed for experienced freedivers ready to develop greater depth, stronger technique and a deeper understanding of the skills and knowledge behind advanced freediving.
This is much more than simply learning to dive deeper. Throughout the course, you’ll develop your understanding of advanced equalisation, deep diving physiology, training methodology, breathwork, safety and performance. You’ll also learn how to analyse your own diving, structure effective training and support other freedivers in their development.
What you'll explore
Advanced depth diving and deep-water technique
Mouth-fill equalisation and advanced equalisation strategies
FRC diving and the physiological demands of deep diving
Constant Weight and Free Immersion techniques
Advanced static and dynamic apnea training
Freediving-specific strength, mobility and conditioning
Breathing preparation and respiratory training
Training planning, recovery and performance optimisation
Advanced rescue, safety and open-water procedures
Dive-line, lanyard and deep-water equipment setup
Video analysis and technical refinement
Supporting and mentoring other freedivers
The AIDA 4 experience
At Drifters, we see AIDA 4 as an opportunity to bring all of your previous experience together and develop a much deeper understanding of your diving.
You'll work on refining technique, identifying individual limitations and building the knowledge and confidence required to dive deeper and train more effectively. We place a strong emphasis on understanding why things work, rather than simply following a set of instructions.
You'll also develop the ability to contribute to the development of other divers, including assisting with training sessions, warm-ups, open-water preparation and supervised freediving activities.
Certification requirements
To complete AIDA 4, you'll need to demonstrate the required theoretical knowledge and practical skills, including:
3:30 static apnea
70 m dynamic apnea with fins
32 m constant-weight freedive
Successful completion of the AIDA 4 theory examination
AIDA 4 is an advanced qualification and requires a strong foundation of previous freediving experience, appropriate preparation and a mature approach to training and safety.
Ready to become a Master Freediver?
AIDA 4 is about more than achieving a number on a dive line. It's about becoming a more knowledgeable, capable and self-sufficient freediver—and developing the skills to help others become better divers too. People who complete AIDA 4 can become Assistant Instructors on freediving courses.
